Hi my name is Jen and I am a BACP registered Couple and Individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapist
About me
I’m a qualified and experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist. I hold a Post-Graduate Diploma in Individual and Couple Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from Tavistock Relationships in London. Alongside my private practice in Nottingham, I’m a Visiting Clinician, Assessor and Academic Tutor on the Post-Graduate Diploma at Tavistock Relationships, delivered in partnership with Birkbeck College, University of London.
Before becoming a therapist I worked as a solicitor in London and went onto specialise in conflict and dispute resolution, becoming an accredited mediator in 2015. I have also worked and volunteered extensively with young people, including through charities Childline and The NSPCC. Delivering better outcomes for children and families is a large part of what motivates me in my work.
My therapy practice
I work psychodynamically, which is a non-directive, exploratory approach seeking to identify long-held often unconscious habits, patterns and beliefs. It can be beneficial in addressing deep-seated, complex patterns and behaviours to help create lasting change and a more fulfilling life.
My focus is to provide a safe, supportive, non-judgmental environment where couples can seek deeper understanding of themselves, each other and the relationship they create together. The aim is to help create clarity, develop insight and improve communication. Typical difficulties couples might come for help with include communication breakdowns eg circular conflicts, navigating divorce and separation, life transitions such as becoming parents or empty-nesting, sex-life and sexual dysfunction, integrating loss eg bereavement or perinatal loss, and betrayals such as infidelity and affairs.
Many people seek relationship therapy without a partner. I work with individuals experiencing difficulties coping with a break-up, seeking deeper understanding of their relationship or finding themselves repeating unhealthy patterns in relationships. It can also be useful for those who want to explore the absence of lasting intimate relationships.
Getting started
I usually suggest an initial 15-minute phone consultation, free of charge, to discuss your situation and questions. To do this you can get in touch using my contact details below.
If it feels right, we will then schedule a 75-minute consultation. This offers us an opportunity to get to know each other and talk about your concerns in more depth. We can think together about what therapy is like and whether you would find it useful, both in terms of your emotional needs and wider practical considerations.
I offer sessions online or in person at Ruddington Wellness Centre, NG11. You can find further information about me and my practice at the website below, or feel welcome to get in touch direct.
